Sukhasiddhi
Sukhasiddhi (10th-11th century CE) was one of the eighty-four Mahasiddhas of Indian Buddhism and is particularly revered in the Kagyu and Shangpa Kagyu traditions.
Background
Sukhasiddhi was born in India. After great hardship in family life, she received tantric instruction from a woman guru in old age and achieved complete enlightenment through dedicated tantric practice.
Spiritual Contribution
Sukhasiddhi is known for her teachings on the nature of mind and the practice of Mahamudra. She transmitted important instructions on meditation and the recognition of rigpa (pure awareness). Her teachings emphasize direct experience over intellectual understanding.
Legacy and Impact
Sukhasiddhi’s students carried her teachings throughout India and later to Tibet. She is counted among the lineage holders of several Tibetan Buddhist traditions, particularly the Shangpa Kagyu lineage, where she is remembered alongside Niguma as a teacher of Khyungpo Naljor.
