    Shri Sitā Rām

Shri Sitā Rām (श्री सीता राम, 1902–1994) was a prominent Hindu religious leader and saint in the Rāmānandī tradition. He played a significant role in the modern Hindu revival movement and was closely associated with the Ayodhya temple dispute.

    Life and mission

Shri Sitā Rām dedicated his life to the propagation of Rāma bhakti (devotion to Lord Rama) and the restoration of Hindu temples and traditions. He was a leading figure in the Rāmānandī sect, which traces its lineage to the medieval saint Rāmānanda, and he worked to strengthen the sect’s influence in North India.

He became prominently involved in the movement to construct a temple dedicated to Lord Rama at the disputed site in Ayodhya. His advocacy and organizational efforts contributed significantly to mobilizing Hindu opinion on this issue.

    Contribution to Hindu revival

Beyond the Ayodhya movement, Shri Sitā Rām worked to revive traditional Hindu practices and institutions. He established ashrams and schools, trained young monks, and promoted the study of Sanskrit texts. He emphasized that Hinduism must be understood not merely as a religion but as a complete way of life encompassing dharma, karma, and bhakti.

His teachings drew from the Rāmānandī tradition’s emphasis on devotion to Rama as the accessible path to liberation for all people, regardless of caste or social standing.
