    Baba Zorawar Singh

Baba Zorawar Singh (1696–1706) was the third son of Guru Gobind Singh and one of the four Sahibzade (princes) of Sikhism.

    Background

Born at Anandpur Sahib, Baba Zorawar Singh was the son of Guru Gobind Singh and Mata Jito (Ajit Kaur). He and his younger brother Baba Fateh Singh were sent to the safety of a loyal Sikh, but were captured and brought before the Mughal governor Wazir Khan at Sirhind.

    Spiritual Contribution

Despite being only about nine years old, Baba Zorawar Singh stood firm in his Sikh faith and refused to convert to Islam. He and his brother were ordered to be bricked alive in a wall, though according to Sikh tradition they died when the wall collapsed. Their steadfastness became legendary.

    Legacy and Impact

The martyrdom of Baba Zorawar Singh and his brother is among the most emotionally powerful events in Sikh history. It is commemorated every year and serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Guru Gobind Singh’s family. Gurdwaras mark the site of their martyrdom at Sirhind.
