Sadaiya Nayanar

Sadaiya Nayanar is the father of Sundarar and one of the sixty-three — honored in the canon alongside his wife Isaignaniyar.

Life/Legend

The Periya Puranam gives him little narrative beyond his place in Sundarar’s line: the pious household of Thirunavalur from which the friend of Shiva came. The canon reads his inclusion as the holiness of the source — the parents whose devotion bore the saint.

Legacy

He appears in temple processions of the Nayanars beside Isaignaniyar; the family’s three — father, mother, son — are the canon’s household of grace.
