    Raghunatha Siromani

Raghunatha Siromani (c. 1477–1547) was the greatest logician of the Navya-Nyaya school and the author of Didhiti, the most celebrated commentary on Gangesa Upadhyaya’s Tattvachintamani.

    Background

Raghunatha Siromani was born in Bengal and studied Navya-Nyaya logic under the tradition established by Gangesa Upadhyaya. He was associated with the Mithila and Bengal schools of logic and became the foremost master of the new logical method.

    Spiritual Contribution

While primarily a logician rather than a religious figure, Raghunatha’s work on Navya-Nyaya logic had significant implications for philosophical and theological debates. His logical methods were adopted by Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain philosophers to analyze and defend their respective doctrinal positions. His Didhiti refined the logical analysis of concepts such as being, knowledge, and inference.

    Legacy and Impact

Raghunatha Siromani’s Didhiti became the standard reference for Navya-Nyaya logic and is still studied in traditional pandits’ schools. He elevated the logical tradition to its highest level of sophistication. His methods influenced Indian intellectual discourse for centuries.
