Pusalar
Pusalar is the Nayanar who built a temple in his mind and was honoured before kings.
Life/Legend
The hagiography relates that Pusalar, a poor devotee of Tiruninravur, vowed to build a temple to Shiva but lacked means; he is said to have raised the whole temple in thought, consecrating it within his own mind. A Pallava king, building a great stone temple at Kanchipuram, learned in a dream that his consecration must wait: a devotee’s temple was to be dedicated first. Enquiring, he found only the poor saint and his invisible shrine, and bowed before him.
Legacy
The story is cited as the classic statement that devotion outweighs material grandeur in the Nayanar canon.
