Nemichandra Siddhanta Chakravarti
Nemichandra Siddhanta Chakravarti (c. 10th–11th century CE) was the Digambara polymath (“Emperor of Doctrine”) whose Dravyasamgraha and Gommatasara are the most authoritative systematic summaries of Jain karma theory and cosmology.
Background
Flourishing under the Ganga court of Chamundaraya (the minister who raised the Shravanabelagola colossus), Nemichandra was the era’s supreme doctrinal authority — honored with the title “Siddhanta Chakravarti” (emperor of doctrine).
Spiritual Contribution
The Dravyasamgraha (a concise Sanskrit summary of substances, the seven tattvas, and liberation — among the most-commented Jain texts); the Gommatasara (the monumental karma-theory compendium — the Jiva-kanda, Karma-kanda, and related treatises systematizing every karma’s operation); the Trilokasara (cosmology in verse).
Legacy and Impact
His karma-systematics remain the Digambara standard (Digambara logic and karma studies begin from him); the association with Chamundaraya’s Shravanabelagola project ties him to Jainism’s greatest monument.
