    Jagannatha Dasa Babaji

Jagannatha Dasa Babaji (c. 1775–1894 CE) was a Gaudiya Vaishnava saint and the initiating guru of Gaura Kishora Dasa Babaji, making him an important figure in the later Gaudiya lineage.

    Background

Jagannatha Dasa Babaji was a renounced Vaishnava ascetic who lived in the Navadvipa-Mayapur area of Bengal. He was known for his intense devotion, his simplicity, and his advanced age. Despite his physical limitations in later years, his spiritual authority was universally acknowledged. He is traditionally believed to have lived for over 100 years.

    Spiritual Contribution

Jagannatha Dasa Babaji was recognized as a pure devotee (suddha-bhakta) of Krishna. He spent his days chanting the Holy Name and worshipping deities. His life exemplified the ideal of complete dependence on God and detachment from material life. He was the guru of Gaura Kishora Dasa Babaji, who in turn was the initiating guru of Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati.

    Legacy and Impact

Jagannatha Dasa Babaji is venerated as a Mahabhagavata (great devotee) in the Gaudiya tradition. His connection to the later Gaudiya lineage through Gaura Kishora Dasa Babaji makes him an important link in the chain of disciplic succession.
