Idangazhi Nayanar
Idangazhi Nayanar is the chieftain who fed the god’s servants by royal ordinance — the Nayanar who made the feeding of devotees an instrument of state.
Life/Legend
The hagiography relates that Idangazhi, ruler of Konadu? — of his hill country, decreed that every Shiva devotee passing his borders be fed at the state’s charge; the granaries, the tale says, never failed. The tale reads the king’s dharma as the pilgrims’ security, and the god’s acceptance of the ordinance as devotion.
Legacy
His story anchors the canon’s portrait of policy as piety — temples’ feeding endowments carry his memory.
