Alongside his spiritual pursuits, he pursued rigorous academic study, becoming fluent in Sanskrit, Pali, and multiple modern languages. He served as Principal of the Government Sanskrit College, Varanasi (later Sampurnanand Sanskrit University) from 1923 to 1937, and edited the Sarasvati Bhavana Granthamala series of tantric texts. He received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1964 for his research treatise on Tantra, Tantrik Vangmaya Men Shaktadrishti, and was awarded the Padma Vibhushan the same year.
