Bhagat Beni
Bhagat Beni is one of the bhagats of the Guru Granth Sahib, represented by three hymns — the seeker whose verses turn inward the scripture’s gaze.
Life
Traditions preserve almost nothing of his biography (some later texts make him a Bengali? — a North Indian yogi-turned-bhakta). His hymns — on the mind’s unruly horse and the discipline that tames it — read as a yogi’s bhakti.
Teachings/Works
The three hymns’ themes — self-discipline, the futility of external austerity without inner taming — are his collected teaching.
Legacy
Sikhs recite him among the bhagats; his verses are cited in the tradition’s teaching on man-jeetay jag-jeet (conquering the mind as conquering the world).
