Adipaththa Nayanar
Adipaththa Nayanar is the fisherman-saint who offered the first catch of each day to the god — the Nayanar of the sea’s tithe.
Life/Legend
The hagiography relates that Adipaththa of the coast gave the first fish of every haul to the shrine before his family ate; the rule held in famine as in plenty, and the tradition says the sea honored it — his nets never wholly empty. The tale is the canon’s emblem of the first-fruit offering (the principle the Vedas call adhana? — prathama-phala) kept by a fisherman’s hand.
Legacy
Fishing communities of the Tamil coast claim his patronage; his story anchors the Nayanar teaching that every trade has its worship.
