Abdul Quddus Gangohi
Abdul Quddus Gangohi (1456–1537) was the great Suhrawardi master of Gangoh — famed for his mystical identifications with Kabir’s thought (the Kabir-Sufi dialogue legends) and his Persian treatise on the letters.
Background
A Sayyid of Rudauli then Gangoh (Saharanpur district); disciple of the Suhrawardi line (through Ahmad? — the silsila’s Indian masters); his era’s North Indian Sufism was steeped in the Hindi (Hindavi) devotional world, and Gangohi bridged it.
Spiritual Contribution
The treatises (the Latā’if-i Quddusī — collected discourses; the Risala-i Huruf-i Muamma on the mystical letters); the Kabir connection (the legend of his meeting with Kabir, and hisown Hindi dohas in the sant idiom — documented in the Sufi-sant scholarship); his strict sharia-mysticism synthesis model.
Legacy and Impact
His dargah at Gangoh remains a living shrine; the Sufi-sant dialogue’s best-documented case is his circle; the Latā’if is a standard source for late-medieval Indian Sufism.
