Yantra
A yantra is a geometric diagram used in tantric practice as a focal support for meditation and ritual; the Śrīcakra is the best-known example.
Function
Texts of the Śrīvidyā tradition treat the yantra as the subtle body of the deity (the mātṛkā-bhūṣaṇa tradition describes its nine levels as layers of consciousness). Installation (prāṇa-pratiṣṭhā) and daily practice are prescribed in the Tantrarāja and allied manuals.
