    Vrksasana

Vrksasana is a standing balancing yoga posture, also known as the tree pose.

    Overview

Vrksasana, meaning “tree posture,” is a foundational standing balance pose where one foot is placed against the inner thigh of the standing leg, resembling a tree rooted in the earth. It is one of the most commonly practiced balancing asanas.

    Method/Content

The practitioner stands on one leg, lifts the opposite foot, and places the sole against the inner thigh or calf of the standing leg (never against the knee). The hands may be at the heart in prayer position or extended overhead. The gaze is fixed on a steady point to maintain balance. The posture is held for 30 seconds to 1 minute on each side.

    Purpose/Benefits

Vrksasana improves balance, focus, and concentration while strengthening the legs and core. It opens the hips and improves posture. The posture is also said to cultivate patience, stability, and a sense of groundedness.
