Vishuddhi Chakra Dhyana (Throat Chakra Meditation)

Vishuddhi Chakra Dhyana is a meditation practice focused on the vishuddhi (throat) chakra.

    Overview

Vishuddhi, meaning “purification,” is the fifth primary chakra located at the throat region. It is associated with communication, expression, truth, and purification. This chakra governs the thyroid gland and is linked to the element of ether (akasha). Meditation on this chakra is believed to purify speech and enhance authentic expression.

    Method/Content

The practitioner sits in a meditative posture with the spine erect and eyes closed. The attention is directed to the throat center, visualizing a sixteen-petaled lotus in blue or turquoise light. The bija mantra “HAM” is mentally chanted with each exhale, or the practitioner may simply rest in awareness of the throat region. The practice involves observing any tension or blockage in the throat area and allowing it to release with each breath. The meditation typically lasts 10-20 minutes.

    Purpose/Benefits

Vishuddhi Chakra meditation promotes clear communication, authentic expression, and the ability to speak one’s truth with compassion. It is believed to balance the thyroid gland, improve speech and singing, and enhance creative expression. Regular practice is said to purify negative speech patterns, improve listening skills, and foster harmonious relationships through better communication.
