    Virabhadrasana

Virabhadrasana is a series of standing yoga postures, also known as the warrior poses.

    Overview

Virabhadrasana, meaning “warrior posture,” is a family of powerful standing poses named after the fierce warrior Virabhadra, a manifestation of Shiva. There are three primary variations, each expressing a different aspect of the warrior archetype.

    Method/Content

Virabhadrasana I: The practitioner steps one foot back, bends the front knee, raises the arms overhead, and squares the hips forward. Virabhadrasana II: The arms extend horizontally with the gaze over the front hand, the hips open to the side. Virabhadrasana III: The practitioner balances on one leg with the body and back leg parallel to the floor, arms extended forward. Each posture is held for 30 seconds to 1 minute on each side.

    Purpose/Benefits

Virabhadrasana builds strength, stability, and endurance in the legs and core. It improves balance, concentration, and confidence. The postures open the chest, hips, and shoulders while developing mental focus and determination.
