Vasisthasana
Vasisthasana is a side balancing yoga posture, also known as the side plank pose.
Overview
Vasisthasana, named after the sage Vasistha, is a lateral balance pose that strengthens the arms, shoulders, and core. It is a variation of the plank position performed on one side.
Method/Content
From a plank position, the practitioner shifts weight onto one hand, stacks or staggers the feet, and extends the other arm toward the ceiling. The body forms a straight line from head to heels, with the hips lifted and the chest open. The gaze may follow the raised hand. The posture is held for 15 to 30 seconds on each side.
Purpose/Benefits
Vasisthasana strengthens the arms, shoulders, wrists, and core muscles. It improves balance and stability while stretching the sides of the body. The posture is said to build confidence, improve concentration, and strengthen the abdominal muscles.
