    Overview

The Vaikhanasa Agama is one of the two major Agamic traditions of Vaishnavism (the other being Pancharatra). The text is organized into sections covering temple architecture, idol consecration, daily worship procedures, festival observances, and the rules for priests and temple personnel. It includes detailed prescriptions for the materials, measurements, and orientations of temples, as well as the mantras and mudras (hand gestures) to be used in worship. The Agama also discusses the philosophical significance of Vishnu worship and the theological basis for ritual practice.
