Trikonasana
Trikonasana is a standing lateral yoga posture, also known as the triangle pose.
Overview
Trikonasana, meaning “triangle posture,” is a standing asana where the body forms a triangle shape with the floor. It is one of the foundational standing poses in Hatha Yoga and provides a deep lateral stretch.
Method/Content
The practitioner stands with feet wide apart, turns the right foot out 90 degrees, and extends the torso sideways over the right leg. The right hand reaches toward the shin, ankle, or floor while the left arm extends vertically toward the ceiling. The chest remains open and the gaze follows the raised hand. The posture is held for 30 seconds to 1 minute on each side.
Purpose/Benefits
Trikonasana stretches the hips, hamstrings, and spine while strengthening the legs and core. It improves lateral flexibility and balance. The posture is said to stimulate the digestive organs, relieve back pain, and reduce anxiety.
