Tittibhasana (Firefly Pose)
Tittibhasana is an arm balance asana in Hatha Yoga.
Overview
Tittibhasana, meaning “firefly pose,” is an intermediate-to-advanced arm balance where the practitioner supports the entire body on the hands while extending the legs outward. It is a classic arm balance found in many Hatha Yoga traditions.
Method/Content
From a squatting position, the hands are placed on the floor between the legs, shoulder-width apart. The upper arms are positioned behind the thighs, and the body weight shifts forward onto the hands. The legs are then extended straight out to the sides while maintaining balance on the palms. The gaze is directed forward, and the breath remains steady throughout the hold.
Purpose/Benefits
Tittibhasana strengthens the arms, wrists, and core while building concentration and balance. It stretches the inner groin and hamstrings and develops upper body strength. The pose cultivates determination and focus in the practitioner.
