    History and Legend

The temple dates to the Pallava period, with inscriptions from Mahendravarman I. Legend states that the vultures, believed to be sages who attained avian form, visit the temple daily to partake of offerings. The Chola and Vijayanagara dynasties expanded the temple.

    Architecture and Features

The temple complex sits on a hill with 500 steps leading to the summit. The main sanctum houses the Shiva lingam, and the hilltop offers panoramic views. The temple tank at the base and the carved rock-cut sculptures are notable features.
