Supta Baddha Konasana (Reclining Bound Angle Pose)

Supta Baddha Konasana is a restorative supine pose in Hatha Yoga.

    Overview

Supta Baddha Konasana, meaning “reclining bound angle pose,” is a deeply restorative posture where the practitioner lies on the back with the soles of the feet together and knees falling open to the sides.

    Method/Content

From a supine position, the soles of the feet are brought together and the knees are allowed to fall open to the sides, creating a diamond shape with the legs. The arms rest alongside the body or extend overhead. Props such as blocks or bolsters may support the knees. The body fully surrenders into the pose with each exhale.

    Purpose/Benefits

This pose gently opens the hips, groin, and inner thighs while relaxing the entire body. It calms the nervous system and reduces stress and fatigue. The pose is commonly used in restorative and Yin Yoga practices.
