    Simha Mudra

Simha Mudra is a mudra involving the lion’s posture in Hatha Yoga.

    Overview

Simha Mudra, meaning “lion’s seal,” is a practice that combines a physical posture with a specific breathing technique and facial expression. It is described in the Gheranda Samhita and is associated with the lion (simha).

    Method/Content

The practitioner kneels, places the palms on the knees with fingers spread wide like claws, and leans forward. The mouth is opened wide, the tongue is extended downward toward the chin, and the eyes gaze upward at the space between the eyebrows. A roaring exhale is performed through the mouth, mimicking a lion’s roar. The inhalation is done through the nose.

    Purpose/Benefits

Simha Mudra is said to improve throat health, strengthen the vocal cords, and alleviate tension in the face and jaw. It stimulates vishuddhi chakra and is believed to boost confidence and courage. The practice also helps relieve sore throat and respiratory issues.
