    Side Crow (Parsva Bakasana)

Parsva Bakasana is a twisting arm balance asana in Hatha Yoga.

    Overview

Side Crow, meaning “side crane pose,” is an arm balance where the body twists to one side and balances on the hands with the knees stacked on one arm. It combines the arm balance of Bakasana with a spinal twist.

    Method/Content

From a squatting position, the torso twists to one side. The hands are placed on the floor with the knees resting on one upper arm. The body weight shifts forward onto the hands as the feet lift off the floor. The legs remain together and the gaze is forward or to the side. The twist is maintained throughout the balance.

    Purpose/Benefits

Side Crow strengthens the arms and core while improving the twisting mobility of the spine. It develops balance and spatial awareness. The pose stimulates the abdominal organs through the twist.
