Shri Vidya Tradition (Worship of the Supreme Goddess)

Shri Vidya is a Tantric Hindu tradition devoted to the worship of the Supreme Goddess Lalita Tripura Sundari and the Sri Yantra.

    Overview

Shri Vidya (meaning “Sacred Knowledge”) is a Tantric Hindu tradition that worships the Supreme Goddess Lalita Tripura Sundari as the ultimate reality and the source of all creation. The tradition is centered on the Sri Yantra, a complex geometric diagram representing the cosmos and the goddess’s creative energy. Shri Vidya is one of the most important and sophisticated Tantric traditions, combining philosophy, ritual, and meditation into a comprehensive spiritual system.

    Method/Content

Shri Vidya practice includes: meditation on the Sri Yantra, the recitation of the Lalita Sahasranama (Thousand Names of Lalita), the performance of the Sri Chakra puja (worship of the Sri Yantra), and the practice of specific mantras including the Panchadashi and Shodashi mantras. The tradition recognizes three main lineages: Kaula (emphasizing left-hand practices), Samaya (emphasizing right-hand practices), and Mishra (combining both). The practice is traditionally initiated through a guru and involves specific rituals, visualizations, and mantra recitation.

    Purpose/Benefits

Shri Vidya provides a path to spiritual liberation through the worship of the Supreme Goddess. The practice is believed to bestow material prosperity, spiritual knowledge, and divine grace. The Sri Yantra is considered the most powerful of all yantras, and its worship is believed to generate positive energy, remove obstacles, and accelerate spiritual evolution. The tradition emphasizes the unity of the individual soul with the divine feminine.
