Scale Pose (Tulasana)
Tulasana is an arm balance asana in Ashtanga Yoga.
Overview
Tulasana, meaning “scale pose,” is an arm balance where the body is lifted off the floor from a lotus position, balancing on the hands. It resembles a balanced scale.
Method/Content
From Padmasana (lotus pose), the hands are placed on the floor beside the hips. Pressing firmly into the palms, the entire body lifts off the floor, maintaining the lotus position. The arms straighten and the body hangs suspended. The gaze is forward and the core maintains stability.
Purpose/Benefits
Tulasana strengthens the arms, wrists, and core while improving balance. It develops shoulder stability and upper body strength. The pose is believed to improve circulation and energize the body.
