Samana Mudra
Samana Mudra is a hand gesture (mudra) that balances the equalizing vital energy.
Overview
Samana Mudra, meaning “equalizing seal,” is formed by bringing all five fingertips together to touch at a single point. It activates samana vayu, the prana responsible for balancing and equalizing energy in the digestive region.
Method/Content
All five fingertips of each hand are brought together to touch, forming a cone or cup shape. The hands rest on the thighs or at the navel level. The mudra is held for 15 to 30 minutes during meditation or pranayama. It is particularly effective when practiced after meals to support digestion.
Purpose/Benefits
Samana Mudra is said to balance the digestive fire and improve metabolism. It harmonizes the flow of prana in the abdominal region and supports nutrient absorption. The practice also helps balance opposing energies within the body and promotes mental equilibrium.
