    Prajnaparamita

Prajnaparamita is the personification of transcendent wisdom in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism.

    Overview

Prajnaparamita, meaning “perfection of wisdom,” is the personification of the highest wisdom in Buddhism — the direct realization of emptiness (shunyata). She is considered the mother of all Buddhas, as all enlightened beings are born from this wisdom. In art, she is depicted with multiple arms, holding a book and various implements symbolizing perfect wisdom.

    Method/Content

Prajnaparamita worship involves the recitation of Prajnaparamita texts, particularly the Heart Sutra and Diamond Sutra. Meditation practices involve dissolving all concepts into emptiness and resting in the nature of mind. Rituals include offerings, prostrations, and the creation of mandalas. The practice emphasizes the direct realization of the emptiness of all phenomena.

    Purpose/Benefits

Prajnaparamita practice is believed to destroy ignorance, reveal the true nature of reality, and lead directly to enlightenment. She is invoked for wisdom, clarity of mind, and the removal of cognitive obscurations. The tradition holds that her practice is the highest form of Buddhist practice.
