    Pradosh Vrata

Pradosh Vrata is the Hindu fasting observance performed during the twilight period of the 13th day of each lunar fortnight.

    Overview

Pradosh Vrata is observed on the Trayodashi (13th day) of both the waxing and waning moon, during the twilight period (pradosha kala). It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is believed to be especially powerful for removing sins and granting liberation. The observance is particularly popular among Shaiva devotees.

    Method/Content

The fast begins on the Trayodashi day and involves abstinence from food until the evening worship. Devotees visit Shiva temples during the twilight period and perform abhisheka (ritual bathing) of the Shiva Lingam with water, milk, and other sacred substances. The worship includes the recitation of Shiva mantras, offering of bilva leaves, and the performance of aarti. The fast is broken after the evening worship.

    Purpose/Benefits

Pradosh Vrata is believed to remove all sins, grant prosperity, and ensure spiritual progress. The tradition holds that observing Pradosh is equivalent to performing thousands of other vows. It is particularly effective for overcoming negative planetary influences and ensuring the well-being of the family.
