Pitta
Pitta is one of the three primary doshas in Ayurveda, composed of fire (agni) and water (jala) elements.
Overview
Pitta governs digestion, metabolism, and transformation in the body. It controls body temperature, skin coloration, and intellectual capacity.
Philosophical Context
Pitta represents the principle of transformation and is associated with the sun’s energy. It resides primarily in the small intestine, stomach, liver, and spleen. When balanced, Pitta promotes intelligence, courage, and sharp digestion.
Interpretations
Pitta is characterized by qualities that are hot, sharp, oily, liquid, and spreading. An excess of Pitta leads to inflammation, anger, skin rashes, and acid reflux. Its cycle of dominance peaks in summer and during middle age.
