Pincha Mayurasana
Pincha Mayurasana is an inverted yoga posture, also known as the feathered peacock or forearm stand.
Overview
Pincha Mayurasana, meaning “feathered peacock posture,” is an inversion where the body is balanced on the forearms with the legs extended upward. It requires significant shoulder strength and balance.
Method/Content
The practitioner places the forearms on the floor parallel to each other, tucks the toes, and walks the feet toward the hands. One leg is kicked up followed by the other, finding balance on the forearms. The body forms a straight line from elbows to toes, with the core engaged and the gaze between the forearms. The posture is held for 15 to 30 seconds.
Purpose/Benefits
Pincha Mayurasana strengthens the shoulders, arms, and core while improving balance and spatial awareness. It increases blood flow to the brain and stimulates the endocrine system. The posture is said to build confidence and overcome fear.
