    Panchkroshi Yatra

Panchkroshi Yatra (पंचक्रोशी यात्रा) is a sacred pilgrimage circuit around Varanasi.

    Overview

The Panchkroshi Yatra is one of the oldest and most sacred pilgrimage circuits in Hinduism, a 84-km walk around the five sacred sites (kshetras) surrounding Varanasi. The circuit includes five ancient temples and is believed to grant moksha (liberation) to those who complete it.

    History and Legend

The Panchkroshi Yatra is mentioned in the Kashi Khanda of the Skanda Purana. The five sites are: Ati (Adi Keshava Temple), Prayag (Triveni), Anandamayi (Anandamayi Kunda), Kapila (Kapila Tirtha), and Kedareshwar (Kedareshwar Temple). The circuit is believed to purify sins and grant liberation.

    Architecture and Features

The yatra passes through five ancient temples and several sacred bathing spots. The route follows traditional pilgrimage paths through the Varanasi countryside. The temples are modest structures but are of great antiquity and religious significance.

    Modern Status

The Panchkroshi Yatra continues to be undertaken by devout Hindus, especially during special occasions. The route has been developed with facilities for pilgrims. The yatra is an important part of Varanasi’s living pilgrimage tradition.
