Non-returner
Non-returner (Pali: Anagami) is the third of the four stages of awakening in Theravada Buddhism.
Overview
A non-returner will not return to the human realm after death but will be reborn in the Pure Abodes (Suddhavasa), where they attain final nirvana.
Philosophical Context
The non-returner has eliminated the five lower fetters entirely: identity view, doubt, attachment to rites, sensual desire, and ill-will. They have no attachment to sensual pleasures.
Interpretations
Non-returners are considered highly advanced practitioners. They have completely overcome sensual desire and ill-will, and their liberation is assured.
