Niranjani Akhara
The Niranjani Akhara is the second-ranking Shaiva sadhu order — named for the Niranjana (the spotless Absolute), historically the literary akhara (its sannyasis’ scholarship tradition) and the Kumbh procession’s second Shaiva position.
Overview
Organized in the medieval akhara-system (the sadhu-defense federations); its classical reputation for learning (the akhara’s scholars and its matha-network); the Kumbh order (after Juna, before Mahanirvani in the Shaiva sequence — the order settled in the 18th-century Prayag agreement).
Core Structure
The mandaleshwar and mahamandaleshwar titles (the akhara’s dignitaries); the initiation lineages; the temple-and-matha holdings across the tirthas.
Modern status
An active participant in the Kumbh system; its leadership’s public dharma roles; the akhara’s scholarly reputation maintained through its institutions.
