They are considered the highest grade of Siddha medicines, reserved for serious and chronic conditions.

The nine Navapashanam preparations typically include: Vanga Parpam (tin), Naga Parpam (lead), Rasa Sinduram (mercuric sulfide), Swarna Makshikai (iron pyrites), Mandooram (iron oxide), Thiripriya Parpam (a compound mineral preparation), Vaikranta Bhedam (coral), Bhramara Parpam (a specialized compound), and Nagapushpi Parpam (calcined conch shell).
