    Mahanirvani Akhara

The Mahanirvani Akhara (“of the great liberation”) is the third-ranked Shaiva sadhu order — traditionally associated with the Shankaracharya’s dashanami sannyasa orbit and the Kumbh sequence’s third Shaiva position.

    Overview

Among the medieval akhara-federation’s founding orders (the martial defense era); its dashanami associations (the akhara’s sannyasa lineages connected to the Sringeri orbit per tradition); the Kumbh precedence (after Juna and Niranjani — the settled order); its matha-network at the tirthas.

    Core Structure

The mandaleshwar hierarchy; the Naga initiation; the akhara’s charitable institutions (the kitchens and dharamshalas at the Kumbh sites).

    Modern status

Active in the Kumbh system; its contemporary leadership’s public roles; participation in the sadhu-polity’s councils.
