Kundalini Dharana (Concentration on Kundalini Energy)
Kundalini Dharana is a meditation practice of concentrating awareness on the dormant spiritual energy (kundalini) at the base of the spine.
Overview
Kundalini Dharana involves directing and maintaining awareness on kundalini shaktii](/entry/shakti)—the primordial spiritual energy believed to reside dormant at the base of the spine, near the muladhara chakra. This practice is considered advanced and should only be attempted after establishing a solid foundation in basic meditation, pranayama, and nadi purification.
Method/Content
The practitioner sits in a meditative posture and begins with grounding and centering practices. Awareness is directed to the base of the spine, visualizing kundalini as a coiled serpent of golden or red energy. Through focused intention and breath work, the practitioner gently awakens this energy and guides it upward through the sushumna nadi. The practice involves careful attention to the sensations of energy movement—heat, tingling, vibrations—while maintaining calm, witness-like awareness. The energy is guided through each chakra, with specific visualizations and mantras at each center.
Purpose/Benefits
Kundalini Dharana is believed to lead to spiritual awakening, expanded consciousness, and direct experience of the divine. The practice activates dormant spiritual potential, removes energetic blockages, and harmonizes the entire energy system. When practiced safely and correctly, it is said to bring profound transformation, heightened awareness, and states of samadhi.
