Kapha
Kapha is one of the three primary doshas in Ayurveda, composed of water (jala) and earth (prithvi) elements.
Overview
Kapha governs structure, stability, and lubrication in the body. It provides the physical form and connects all body parts through fluids and tissues.
Philosophical Context
Kapha represents the principle of cohesion and is associated with the ocean’s qualities. It resides primarily in the chest, throat, and head, and governs the respiratory and lymphatic systems. When balanced, Kapha promotes love, forgiveness, and physical endurance.
Interpretations
Kapha is characterized by qualities that are heavy, slow, cool, oily, and smooth. An excess of Kapha leads to weight gain, congestion, lethargy, and attachment. Its cycle of dominance peaks in spring and during childhood.
