    Kabir Panth

Kabir Panth is the path founded on Kabir’s teaching — the sant order(s) that carry the weaver-saint’s rejection of ritual, caste, and scriptural literalism through congregations across North India and among the Indian diaspora.

    Origins

The panth descends from Kabir’s disciples (the tradition counts twelve? — primary lineages: the Chhattisgarh/Satnami lines, the Kabir Chaura matha of Varanasi, and the Bijak-transmission lines); organization crystallized from the 17th century with the mathas and the collection of Kabir’s sayings (the Bijak central to the eastern? — to several branches).

    Key teachings

The formless Divine within (“the Lord is in the breath”); refusal of idols, caste, circumcision and thread alike; the Satguru’s necessity; the Bijak’s and Granth-preserved bani as scripture. Practice is kirtan, satsang, and the discipline of the Name (the shabda).

    Modern status

Major panth centers (Kabir Chaura, Maghar’s shrine, the Chhattisgarh Satnam lines) remain active; Kabir’s bani in the Guru Granth Sahib gives Sikhs the same verses, and the panth’s universalism has made him the shared saint of India’s composite culture.

    Verification notes

    • The panth’s organization and text-bases are documented; the earliest lineage details are traditional.
