Isha Foundation
Isha Foundation is the spiritual and educational organization founded by Sadhguru (Jaggi Vasudev) in 1992 near Coimbatore, known for the Inner Engineering program, the Isha Yoga Center at the Velliangiri foothills, and mass-scale environmental initiatives.
Overview
Registered as a non-profit, the Foundation’s campus (the Dhyanalinga, a consecrated meditation space consecrated 1999, the Adiyogi Alayam, and the 112-ft Adiyogi Shiva statue unveiled 2017) is among India’s most-visited spiritual destinations.
Core teachings
Inner Engineering: yoga as inner technology — pranayama-based practices (Shambhavi Mahamudra among the signature initiations), meditation, and the Isha Hatha school; the guru-disciple frame with Sadhguru’s contemporary idiom (the “mystic’s” discourses).
Practice and work
Programs from weekend intensives to residential retreats; Rural Rejuvenation and Cauvery Calling (the river revitalization campaign, tree-planting at the million scale); Isha Samskriti and Isha Vidhya schools; Rally for Rivers (2017) its largest public campaign.
Modern status
A global organization with centers across continents; its claims and campaigns attract both mass following and critical scrutiny (the encyclopedia notes the debate neutrally); the Dhyanalinga’s consecration remains its spiritual anchor.
