    Eight-Angle Pose (Astavakrasana)

Astavakrasana is a twisting arm balance asana in Hatha Yoga.

    Overview

Astavakrasana, meaning “eight-angle pose,” is an arm balance where both legs are extended to one side while balancing on the hands. It is named after the sage Astavakra, who was born with eight crooked limbs.

    Method/Content

From a seated position, both legs are brought to one side of the body and hooked over one arm. The hands are placed on the floor, and the body weight shifts forward as the feet lift off the floor. The legs extend straight out to the side while the torso faces forward. The core engages to maintain balance.

    Purpose/Benefits

Astavakrasana strengthens the arms and core while developing balance and concentration. It stretches the hips and inner thighs. The pose builds confidence and overcomes fear.
