    Chinmaya Mission

Chinmaya Mission is the global Vedantic teaching organization founded in 1953 (Chennai) by disciples of Swami Chinmayananda to carry his mission of spreading Vedanta and the Bhagavad Gita through systematic study.

    Overview

Originating with the 1951 Pune Gita Jnana Yajna (Chinmayananda’s first great public teaching series), the Mission formalized around him; it grew into one of the world’s largest Vedantic institutions — centers across India and on every continent.

    Core teachings

Scripture-first Vedanta: systematic study (the Bala Vihar for children, Yuva Kendra for youth, study groups for adults) of the Gita, Upanishads, and Chinmayananda’s commentaries; “to give maximum happiness to the maximum number for the maximum time” as the Mission’s motto.

    Practice and work

Weekly satsang and scriptural classes; residential Vedanta courses (Sandeepany Sadhanalaya, Mumbai, and regional institutes) training brahmacharis; schools, hospitals, and rural development under the Chinmaya Organisation for Rural Development.

    Modern status

Thousands of centers; the Mission continues under its central council of acharyas; Chinmayananda’s audio-video corpus remains the core curriculum.
