    Bhuvaneshwari

Bhuvaneshwari is the fourth of the ten Mahavidyas, the cosmic ruler of the universe, and the goddess of all creation and its inhabitants.

    Overview

Bhuvaneshwari, whose name means “Queen of the Universe” (Bhuvana = universe, Ishwari = queen), is the goddess who pervades and sustains the entire cosmos. She is regarded as the supreme creative power (Shakti) and is one of the most important deities in Shakta Tantric traditions. She represents the spaciousness of consciousness and the vastness of creation.

    Content and Structure

Bhuvaneshwari is depicted as a beautiful, golden-complexioned goddess seated on a lotus, with four arms holding a noose, goad, and granting boons with her hands in abhaya and varada mudras. She wears a red silk sari and is adorned with jewels and a crescent moon. Her yantra is the Bhuvaneshwari Yantra, and her worship involves the Bhuvaneshwari Tantra and various Shakta rituals.

    Significance

Bhuvaneshwari represents the mother of the universe and is identified with the void (shunya) from which all creation emerges. In Kashmir Shaivism, she is the creative aspect of consciousness that manifests the universe. She is particularly worshipped for prosperity, protection, and the realization of the cosmic nature of the Self.
