    Bhujangini Mudra

Bhujangini Mudra is a mudra involving a serpentine breathing technique in Hatha Yoga.

    Overview

Bhujangini Mudra, named after the cobra (bhujanga), is a practice where air is gulped or swallowed into the stomach, mimicking the way a serpent swallows its prey. It is one of the mudras described in the Gheranda Samhita.

    Method/Content

The practitioner sits in a comfortable posture, tilts the head back slightly, and gulps air into the stomach through the mouth in a series of swallowing motions. The cheeks may be puffed as the air is drawn in. The air is then expelled through the nostrils. The practice is repeated several times in a controlled manner.

    Purpose/Benefits

Bhujangini Mudra is said to eliminate hunger and thirst and cure diseases of the stomach. It is believed to increase gastric fire and improve digestion. The practice also strengthens the throat region and is considered beneficial for respiratory ailments.
