    Bharmanasana (Tabletop Pose)

Bharmanasana is a neutral spine tabletop position used as a transitional and preparatory pose in yoga.

    Overview

Bharmanasana, meaning “tabletop pose,” places the practitioner on all fours with the spine in a neutral position, resembling a table. It serves as the foundational position for Cat-Cow stretches and many other spinal movements.

    Method/Content

The hands are placed directly under the shoulders and the knees under the hips. The spine is held long and neutral, with the crown of the head extending forward and the tailbone reaching back. The gaze is directed downward, and the breath flows naturally. This position is used as a starting point for spinal undulations and balancing postures.

    Purpose/Benefits

Bharmanasana develops awareness of neutral spine alignment and core engagement. It gently strengthens the arms and legs while preparing the body for more complex movements. The pose promotes spinal health and body awareness.
