Ayush Homa (Fire Ritual for Longevity)

Ayush Homa is a Hindu fire ritual performed for the promotion of longevity, health, and vitality.

    Overview

Ayush Homa is a fire ceremony dedicated to the Ayush Gods (deities of longevity) who are invoked for blessings of long life, good health, and freedom from disease. The ritual is commonly performed on birth anniversaries, during recovery from illness, and as a preventive measure for maintaining health. The mantra used is typically from the Rig Veda’s Ayush Sukta.

    Method/Content

The homa is performed in a consecrated fire altar with ghee, herbs, and other sacred materials. The Ayush Sukta from the Rig Veda is chanted while offering oblations into the fire. The ritual includes the invocation of the Ayush deities, the performance of the fire ceremony with specific offerings, and the distribution of sacred ash and prasad. The complete ritual typically takes 2-3 hours and is performed by trained Vedic priests.

    Purpose/Benefits

Ayush Homa is performed to promote longevity, prevent disease, and restore health. It is believed that the fire ritual invokes the blessings of the life-sustaining deities, purifying the body and mind of negative influences. The practice is especially recommended for those recovering from serious illness or facing health challenges.
